Description
Curtin University traces its origins back to the beginning
of the 20th C., when the first business and engineering
courses were given. At that time, however, it was called
Perth Technical Collage. Today Curtin is a great university,
with many courses of study and doctorate programs in
humanities, business administration, sciences, engineering,
agriculture and mining. The 112 hectares covered by
the main campus are close to Perth and there are other
campuses in Kalgoorlie, Northam and also in Sarawak,
Malaysia.
Accommodation
Students can live off campus but most overseas students
prefer staying in one of the university’s 6 residences,
all on campus.
Academics
This University offers English courses for those willing
to enrol in the University. Among the language programs
available there is the English Language Bridging Program,
designed to fit each student’s need, where subjects
such as Academic Writing, English Communication and
English for Science and Technology are approached. The
ELICOS (English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas
Students) program is designed for those students wishing
to improve their skills in academic English. The course
can be taken on a full or part time basis, the full-time
course taking one semester and the part-time course
two semesters.
Activities
The University’s location provides students with
many opportunities for enjoying Western Australia’s
unique beauty and having fun with activities such as
horse rides through the woods, diving on the Ningaloo
coral reef, surfing in Margaret River or joining Curtin
Volunteers to help in one of the work programs dealing
with remote aboriginal communities.
