Description
Hawthorn – Melbourne is Melbourne University’s English Language Centre. Located on the Hawthorn campus of Melbourne’s private University, in the attractive Hawthorn area, it is only 8 km from the city centre. The Centre is close to some of the most popular shopping and restaurant districts. The campus is well served by public transport and getting to town or to neighbouring suburbs is easily done by catching a train, bus or tram. The centre specializes in preparing overseas students so that they can continue their studies in the University.

Accommodation
The school has an accommodation office with full time staff, which helps students with matters such as living arrangements, locating family homes, advice, dealing with problems, renting apartments and moving. The office is open everyday during business hours.

Academics
Melbourne accepts students to commence its courses at five-week intervals throughout the year. There are nine intakes each year. The average class size is 15 students, with a range between eight and 17 students per class. There are seven different levels of classes. Courses range from elementary to advanced levels. Hawthorn – Melbourne offers General English Courses and academic English courses. Intensive Academic Preparation (IAP), English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and IELTS preparation courses are provided for students who have already reached the required level of General English. Preparation courses for Cambridge English tests, First Certificate of English and Certificate of Advanced English (FCE and CAE) are also available.
Activities
Hawthorn has a Sport, Cultural and Outdoor program as well as an Excursion program. Through these programs students participate in different social activities, make new friends, meet Australians and gain the necessary confidence in their English learning.
